Serum can be stored at -20 C.

Significans

1. These are group of antibodies, seen in the autoimmune diseases.
2. These are produced against antigens in the nucleus like histones,double and single stranded DNA antigens,and ribonucleoproteins.

Normal

• Negative ( < 70 IU/ml )
• Borderline : 70-200 IU/ml

Significanc

1. Anti-DNA is useful to diagnose and follow-up of SLE.
2. The level of this antibody correlate with disease activity and presence of kidney disease ( glomerulonephritis).

This test can be done by fluorescent microscopy.and will see different pattern in various diseases.e.g.

1. SLE—nuclear pattern is homogeneous, peripheral,and speckled.
2. Scleroderma—homogeneous,peripheral,and speckled.
3. Primary biliary cirrhosis—Nucleolar.
4. Rheumatoid arthritis—homogeneous,peripheral and speckled.
