Anti- D Antibody ( Rh-antibody )

Sample

The sample is serum (3-5 ml) blood is needed in disposable syringe.

Physiology

The red blood cells has various antigens in the form of various blood groups like Blood group ABO system and blood group Rh-systems (D-antigen).
If mother is D-negative and baby is D-positive ,then because of the feto-maternal hemorrhage, mother will develop anti-D antibodies.

Significance

  1. This is used to detect antibody in the Rh-negative mothers or in the newborn.
  2. One can monitor the presence of antibody during pregnancy.
  3. Indirect Coomb’s test is done to find free anti-D antibody in the serum.
  4. Direct coomb’s test is done to find RBC coated antibody.
